Wealth vs. poor (jamie taylor)
This novel has two main social classes that include the aristocrats, and the lower class. The aristocrat would be the Grangerfords and you can tell they are wealthy because Huck says, “It was a mighty nice family, and a mighty nice house, too. I hadn’t seen no house out in the country before that was so nice and had so much style" (Page 99). Another example of the Grangerfords having wealth would be when Huck says, "Each person had their own nigger to wait on them-Buck, too. My nigger had a monstrous easy time, because I warn't used to having anybody do anything for me, but Buck's was on the jump most of the time"(136). This explains that the Grangerfords were wealthy enough to own a lot of slaves. The lower class include Huck, Pap, and Jim. Although, Jim is considered lower than the lower class because he is an African American, an example would be when pap says, "Well, that let me out. Thinks I, what is the country a-coming to? It was 'lection day, and I was just about to go and vote myself if I warn't too drunk to get there; but when they told me there was a State in this country where they'd let that nigger vote, I drawed out. I says I'll never vote agin"(35). This explains how Pap, who is low class, views African Americans as an even lower class than himself.
